Having an elephant as a pet is a very difficult thing to do, the reason for this is that most countries require a special permit and special enclosures and certificates for the keeping of exotic species. In addition, most species of elephants are currently endangered due to the treacherous ivory trade as well as habitation destruction. In the UK it is utterly illegal to keep elephants as pets in any capacity. In the United States this is also true unless you own special grounds, such as an animal shelter or conservation center, have a zoo or own a circus.
